Gr 2-4-Readers interested in learning more about modern conveniences in the world around them will be intrigued by this informative series. Each book follows a similar format with advances following a brief history of development of the inventions. Some of the most fascinating books are about things that are so ingrained in our lives, we barely think about them. Readers may not realize that the first refrigerators were ice boxes-pretty primitive compared to the Internet-connected fridges available today! Inventing GPS is also an amazing read, especially since its target audience has never lived in a world without this technology at their fingertips. Future potentials are discussed at the end of each book, predicting the arrival of self-driving cars and climate-conscious electric airplanes. The books are generally positive, so they're not particularly balanced, but are nonetheless useful for young researchers. VERDICT Fine additional purchases.
